Elephants are truly magnificent animals, and Elephants World in Thailand is dedicated to protecting and rescuing elephants that have suffered abuse or captivity. They show great respect and care for these gentle giants.
Ampan, an 80-year-old elephant, has lived well beyond the typical lifespan of her species and is blind in both eyes.
As a special gift, a volunteer-led her to a clearing where a piano awaited. There, a pianist played Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune.”
The music seemed to have a soothing effect on Ampan. She responded immediately by snorting, flapping her ears, and moving her trunk in time with the melody.
Her eyes, though blind, appeared to reflect the calm and wisdom of her long life, and they almost seemed to well up with emotion at the sound of the music.
When the performance ended, the pianist stood up and hugged Ampan. The embrace between the elephant and the human was full of warmth and comfort, resembling a connection between old friends.
This touching moment highlights Elephants World’s mission to rescue and rehabilitate elephants in Thailand, showing love and compassion for these incredible creatures.
