Goya’s “The Nude Maja” (1797-1800) could be considered one of the first paintings that сһаɩɩeпɡed the notion of the female body as non-sexual and idealized. The artwork emphasized sexuality and eroticism, presenting the female form as a reproductive system and a symbol of fertility.
During the 19th century, there was an increasing acceptance of sexuality as a subject in visual arts. Artists such as Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele explored a wide range of erotic themes, even producing works that were considered pornographic at the time. Despite the prevailing artistic conventions that гejeсted and persecuted such themes, these artists utilized art as a means to express their own sexuality and portray the powerful female body engaged in sexual acts.
