This shoot has been a long time dream of mine. I was envisioning the horse walking on the beach with a girl dressed up in steampunk style riding on top. When we got to the beach we started as planned, but Maddie, (our horse) was clearly not happy, she kept going right to the edge of the water and putting in her nose, not quite sure what to do in this new environment.

We ran her up and down the beach a few times, but things were not going well. Finally, it became apparent that she wanted to go IN the lake… So in we all went, and we spent the next hour or so walking and swimming in the water capturing the magic of this lake loving horse and her handler. The photos we captured are pretty incredible… The serenity of this animal, the relationship she has with her handler and the story that unfolded in this series as a result. My lesson that night… Have no expectations and embrace the magic as it happens, (oh and don’t be afraid to get wet in the process)! I hope you enjoy these images as much as I do.
