The Most Mysterious Earthly Archaeological Finds Ever Discovered

Our scholars agree that we are a specie with an intense case of amnesia. Despite having a detailed understanding of our history, there are some things we cannot explain. Here are some of the most mysterious archaeological discoveries we have ever made.

Thanks to countless archaeological discoveries, our understanding of our history have become more detailed. But some discoveries left us scratching our heads. Is our history more complex than we know?

Let’s discuss this.

The Underground City of Derinkuyu

This underground city was excavated in Turkey, and experts found that they are thousands of years old. Given the period from when it was constructed, this is one of the fascinating achievements of antiquated architecture and engineering.

The origin of this city is a mystery. And none of our experts can explain why or how ancient civilizations built this underground city. As far as theories go, this city is speculated to have protected ancient people from the effects of climate change.

Giant Stone Spheres

These massive spheres excavated in Costa Rica are amazing. And further investigations revealed that other spheres are buried in different parts of the world.

As far as these spheres go, we found the largest one in Costa Rica. This place also has the largest concentration of these stone spheres.

These were discovered in 1930 while construction workers cleared the jungle to build a banana plantation. Since then, no one has been able to explain what they are for.

Malta’s Cart Ruts

There is a prehistoric site in Malta near the Dingli Cliffs. They’re called the Misrah Ghar il-Kbir and are known for their mysterious ‘tracks’ embedded in stone.

Dubbed “cart ruts,”these are complex networks of tracks deeply embedded in rocks.

“Japan’s Atlantis”

There’s a mysterious underwater monolith near Japan’s coast. These massive structures are dubbed Japan’s Atlantis. This underwater monument of Yonaguni strongly resembles a massive submerged pyramid.

Some experts argue that this structure is evidence of a complex civilization that lived on the planet before the last ice age. However, we do not know for sure.

Great Pyramids

The grandest prehistoric buildings that have ever existed on Earth are pyramids. The Egyptian pyramids are unique among all the civilizations that erected them. The Great Pyramid of Giza continues to rank among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Pyramid construction is said to have begun in Egypt circa 2700 BC, mostly as mummy tombs for preserving royal remains.

With a height of 481 feet, the Great Pyramid of Giza is both the oldest and highest pyramid in Egypt. Millions of limestones were used in the construction of a pyramid, which took over 20 years to finish. Pyramid interiors have preserved corpses and priceless valuables. Additionally, the pyramids’ walls are decorated with exquisite sculptures and murals.

Moai Statues, Easter Island

One of the most enigmatic and ionic archaeological finds ever discovered is the Moai sculptures of the Easter Islands. The major draw of Easter Island, a less distant Chilean Island, are these sculptures. Between 1300 and 1500 A.D., the indigenous Rapa Nui people created the Moai figures.

There are a total of 288 maoi sculptures on the island, all of which are positioned on distinct, large stone platforms. Moai sculptures are 80 tons in weight and 13 feet tall. These figures were carved by the Rapa Nui people using rocks from the island’s dormant volcano. Moai sculptures may be moved side by side with the use of sturdy ropes thanks to their ‘D’ shaped bases.

Terracotta Army

A team of archaeologists in Xian, China, conducted a dig in 1974 that led to the discovery of the Terracotta Army, the largest example of funerary art ever. Numerous clay warriors were discovered buried close to the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. He was China’s first emperor. He was buried with clay troops to guard him against outside powers after his death. This 2200+-year-old complex is quite old.

Along with the statues, the archaeologist discovered several pieces of weaponry. Within several clay tunnels, they were precisely positioned. This archaeological site contains four major pits that may be observed. Three of the trenches are occupied by terracotta soldiers and weaponry, while the fourth one is unoccupied.
