When a puppy is lost it is an experience that no one wants to live, it is an anguish that grows bigger with each passing day. This is what happened to Pablo and Julia when their greyhound dog Nona left her house in Barcelona and ran into the city’s train tunnels.

These puppies are characterized by their elegance, speed and agility. For decades they have been protagonists of hundreds of illegal races. This breed of dog has also been used to hunt rabbits and hares in the field.

When they consider that they have lost those faculties and abilities, they are left to fend for themselves. That was what Nona lived after being rescued.

Sadly, many of these furry dogs after being abandoned are left with sequelae due to the mistreatment they received from their former owners. Generally you can see them nervous, scared and distrustful.

Nona’s recovery process made her go from being a fearful and introverted dog to a happy and grateful dog for having a new opportunity to live in a loving home.

Pablo and Julia decided to adopt Nona to make her part of the family and provide her with a peaceful and happy place to live. They hired someone to take care of her, but he doesn’t know how Nona escaped from the house.

When you lose a pet, it’s like losing a loved one. You look for him at home and he’s gone. My other dog stopped eating for 48 hours due to distress,” Pablo said.

Anguish and despair invaded the lives of Pablo and Julia, until finally, after eight days, they heard from their beloved pet.

Leaving her house, Nona made her way to one of the city’s trains, jumped over the security platform and into the tunnels. The Galgos 112 organization received an alert that Nona had been seen running near the train tracks.

But after intense days of searching, a woman named Elena reported that she had seen the dog in some bushes near a neighborhood in the area. The woman took her to a vet where they examined her.

Nona was very exhausted, luckily she had only hurt one leg, but thanks to that they were able to recover her without her running away scared.  Miraculously, Nona did not have serious consequences despite having been exposed to the latent danger of being inside the tunnels of an operating train.

“For many of them it was just a lost dog. We really reached a point of desperation in which I warned them that I was going to be the one who was going to enter the tracks to look for her. Luckily, I found several agents of the Urban Police who showed sensitivity and proposed to help me”, added Pablo.

Fortunately, Nona was reunited with her family after having been wandering and putting her life at risk.
