Chi Chi is an adorable two-year-old Golden Retriever who was about to be killed to be sold in South Korea . The black market for dog meat is an industry responsible for the death of approximately two million dogs a year.

When she was discovered in a dumpster outside a dog meat farm, her paws were about to detach from her body, which was covered in cuts and bruises . The farm owners determined it was not fit to be eaten, so they threw it in the trash. How terrifying it is to know that there are human beings capable of such atrocities!

The vets were forced to amputate its legs so that it could survive. However, losing her limbs did not limit her from enjoying her freedom. She surely appreciates her better than anyone because she has experienced mistreatment and confinement very closely. One day after the surgery she was already having fun with her toys. How cute…

A rescue organization called The Animal Rescue, Media & Education (ARME) brought Chi Chi to the United States for more specialized treatment and a new home . A family in Arizona, Elizabeth and Richard Howell, found out about the dog’s case and decided to adopt her in addition to providing her with the special treatment she needed. 

The family already lives with three rescued dogs and they weren’t looking for a new member, but  Chi Chi’s story touched them to the point that they couldn’t help but bring her home and give her the love she so deserves.

For the first few months they had to wrap her paws in bandages to keep her comfortable. They did an exhaustive search to find the best solution to the problem and finally found a specialist in Virginia who built perfect prostheses for her legs. 

Since receiving them,  Chi Chi has been able to run around with her dog friends and play quietly.

The family is training her to become a therapy dog for amputees. It is the perfect work for it, surely it will help many with her angelic personality. Chi Chi is an example to follow!
