A puppy whose skeleton could only be seen after “forgetting how to eat”, shuddered the woman who saw it. No innocent creature like him deserves to go through something like this, fortunately he received the help he needed for a long time.
Unfortunately, many dogs suffer the worst injustices and abandonment by those people who once promised to care for them.
They end up on the streets without any type of protection and exposed to multiple circumstances that put their physical and emotional health at risk.
This is what happened recently when a woman from Tampa, Florida, saw something strange in the window of her house.
When he approached, he observed that it was a poor poodle in a severe state of malnutrition and a sick appearance, so he quickly contacted a shelter for help.
He went so many days without eating that he forgot how to eat
“The woman mentioned that from the window it seemed to be just a skeleton. So she went into her house and called animal control,” said Debbie Goldsberry, founder of Senior Paws Sanctuary .
When animal control officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that there were actually three dogs on the verge of starvation.
They immediately ran to help them, but two of them died shortly after.
For its part, the poodle that leaned out the window, barely managed to stay alive. In the medical examination it was discovered that she was 9 years old, that she suffered from diabetes, had a tumor on her foot, a skin infection and that most of her fur was missing.
They called him Beni
Due to his serious condition, Beni was rushed to a local shelter where staff did everything possible to help him.
However, his condition was beyond critical and he was put on the euthanasia list . Before being euthanized, the shelter managers wrote an email about Beni and it reached Goldsberry, who offered to take care of him.
“If a rescue didn’t take him into their care, he wasn’t going to make it. We rallied our volunteers and managed to transport him to south Fort Myers,” Goldsberry said.
The noble woman made sure that Beni was immediately attended by a veterinarian, however, no one could ensure that he survived.
“I had forgotten how to eat. We put food in her mouth, but she didn’t know how to eat it. Plus, if she managed to swallow the food, her body couldn’t process it,” Goldsberry said.
Fortunately, Beni was able to remember how to eat and slowly recovered . When he was finally released, he found the home he had never had at the sanctuary run by Goldsberry, along with 26 other rescue dogs.
Every day the puppy improves a little more and has learned that he deserves to be loved, in the arms of the woman who saved his life.
“I guess he realized that people care about him. He began to eat and drink a little. It is unimaginable to be so hungry that you forget how to eat. Seeing him wag his tail for the first time and pick up his toys was incredible,” the woman said.
Thanks to the love that Beni has received, his diabetes stabilized and his black fur grew back with more shine than ever.
However, when the tumor was removed from his foot, the vet found that he had terminal cancer and is currently in the third phase of five stages of the disease.
Despite everything, Beni maintains a positive attitude towards life and is completely grateful to have a home where he can feel loved and cared for, everything he always deserved.
