For a mother there can be no more distressing and paralyzing experience than seeing that the lives of her little ones hang by a thread. Worse yet when she desperately pleads for help, and she doesn’t find the empathy she would expect from people, then her world falls apart completely.

A homeless dog named Hera suffered unspeakably, dejected and overwhelmed with anxiety, after giving birth in the unforgiving winter months, on the streets of Serbia.

The strong storm of several degrees below zero, prevented her from looking for food and what was more serious, keeping her delicate puppies warm and out of danger. That’s why in his desperate quest to save them, he crawled through the snow looking for shelter, but all he found was a cold, wet drain by the side of the road.

Poor Hera was downright stressed about the survival of her sickly babies. She would run out of the drain every time she heard a vehicle go by, she begged with her beautiful little blue eyes to have some compassion.  

But her hopes were crushed by indifference , everyone kept going and no one offered her the shelter she so desperately sought for her puppies.

However, their pleas would finally be heard when the heroes of Dog Rescue Shelter Mladenovac were alerted by a driver of this mother’s drama.

One of the volunteers, Milan, sped off with his car. When he saw so many snow-covered drains, he knew finding it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. But his instinct and the luck of his destiny allowed him to find some paw prints, he immediately saw Hera in a scene that made his heart skip a beat.

Hera’s little face lit up and she ran off the moment she heard Milan approaching the pipe.

Milan was absolutely absorbed and excited to see the kindness of the dog and how affectionate she was. It seemed that he had been waiting years for a compassionate human, and finally the miracle happened before his eyes.

But he was devastated to discover that 3 drenched puppies were shaking in the pipe. Rescuing them would be a daunting task.

First, he made sure to protect Hera in the truck, but not before calming her down and talking to her:

“Don’t worry, we’ll bring your babies.”

The cubs really had no experience with humans, and even though their mother was already safely outside, they refused to move with all their might from their uncomfortable abode. 

Milan became a true hero after exhausting hours of fighting to save the furry ones

When Milan finally manages to save them, one of the most emotional moments that has moved millions occurs when the mother manages to reunite with her little ones.

But without a doubt, the most incredible thing is to see how the distraught mother decides to trust and abandon herself entirely in the hands of the rescuers.

She is the best of mothers and knows that without them she would never have made it.

After attending to and examining them, they discovered that they were 3 precious 4-week-old babies: 2 little boys and 1 little girl.

Hera did nothing but continue to demonstrate her incredible protective instinct, so unwavering since she gave birth, and now she can’t be more happy knowing that she is safe with those she loves the most.

Hopefully, in a few months they will be able to put them up for adoption, and their mother too.
