It is difficult to explain this rescue. Not because it was difficult, but because it is heartbreaking to witness a dog that must have been in great pain for months. She is scared, because all she knows is endless pain. She had never before seen a tumor of this size in a dog.
Alma continues to be treated in the hospital. His surgery will be at the end of the week. It is suspected to be a liposarcoma. Fortunately there are no metastases! Veterinarians will do everything possible to preserve his limb.
Alma’s first bath wasn’t easy…she’s still terrified, but we managed to eliminate a lifetime of dirt and, metaphorically, abandonment. I couldn’t go to surgery in that state. The day of her procedure is approaching, we just need her anemia to improve a little more. They think it’s a liposarcoma… it could be better, but it sure could be worse! If anyone can save the limb from it, it is this great community. With her help, we will spare no expense!
Alma’s life is about to change! After an echocardiogram certified her fit for surgery, she is in surgery right now. Tomorrow you will be able to see the complete procedure. Alma will wake up after surgery a changed dog, free from the pain and overwhelming weight of that unattractive lump! She will then need chemotherapy and rehabilitation.
