A couple of weeks ago, the story of a cute little dog named, at that time, Benito, came to our newsroom. Surely you remember the furry boy from Paraguay who was living on the outskirts of a hospital waiting for his former owner, without knowing that the woman had died of COVID-19.
Well now, this faithful friend put aside his days of anguish and loneliness and has become one of the darlings of his family.
Emigdio Benítez and his family gave the dog a second chance, after seeing his story in different media.
After the death of his owner, Rubio Espero spent almost two months in the hospital and was fed by the workers and relatives of the patients confined in the health center.
The loyalty of the animal was admirable and that made it worthy of so much affection in the place. However, the streets are not good for anyone and the puppy began to get worse. The animal did not have the necessary food or care.
When the dog arrived at the shelter, it was checked by the veterinarian who, after some tests, determined that it had kennel cough, a skin condition, and canine leishmaniasis.
Rubio spent almost three weeks in the hands of Marcando Huellas volunteers before meeting Emigdio and his wife, who became his new family.
The puppy was received in a home full of love and with an incomparable passion for animals. Since receiving their first pet from him in 2007, Emigdio and his wife have adopted 10 puppies and one kitten; that is to say that the beautiful Rubio arrived to become the 11th pet of the couple.
In fact, the animalistic spirit of these people was one of the reasons why they were forced to change the name. At the Benítez family’s house there is already a puppy named Benito, so the new member was received as Rubio.
His rechristening has not been a problem for him; although Emigdio reported that there were certain differences between the two furry ones when they got home.
To the point that it was necessary to call a dog trainer to put order.
“It took a while to adapt with Benito and Rubio because of the fact that they both wanted to be the alpha male of the house. So, we had to resort to a dog trainer to help us so that they could tolerate each other and could live together”, Emigdio told Zoorprendente.
Despite the large number of animals, the Benítez family provides the necessary care and attention to each one of them. They also have a house with a large patio where the furry ones can play comfortably.
Emigdio is happy with the decision he made when contacting the organization to adopt Rubio and for this reason he spreads a message:
“Do not hesitate to provide a space not in your homes, but in your home and in each other’s hearts. That is a decision that one will never regret. Seven of our puppies are rescued and we gave them a second chance,” Emigdio asked.
Here’s a greeting from Rubio’s darling for Patricia.
Rubio’s story fills us with great admiration for those people who decide to open their hearts and welcome those who need us so much. We thank Emigdio and his family for all the love they give not only to Rubio, but to all of his pets. In the same way to Patricia for the great work she does in Marcando Huellas, without them this happy ending would not have been possible.
