When , the sweet Shepherd girl, was found as a stray on October 4, 2023, it didn’t take long for rescuers to realize just how badly she needed help. She was very skinny, clearly alone, and had a severe fracture in one of her front paws. Despite all of this, she maintained a resilient spirit that charmed her rescuers as well as many shelter volunteers across Southern California.
A Saving Grace With No Time to Spare
Kiah found herself awaiting her fate at the City of San Bernardino Animal Services. Sadly, she was scheduled for euthanasia only ten days after she arrived at the facility. She was estimated to be only one year old, yet she was preparing to face the end of her life by the time a rescuer was able to step up. By some miracle, Leashes of Love Rescue, Inc. was able to find a foster home for her… on the day of her scheduled euthanasia. There really was no time to spare!
On October 17, Leashes of Love officially welcomed Kiah into the family. However, her recovery was far from complete. It took some time for her to gain weight–she’s now a healthy 40-pound dog–and she unfortunately had to have her injured leg amputated.
While this was an adjustment, especially from the procedure itself, this resilient gal could not be doing any better! She’s loving life as a , and she’s even more active than she was before the amputation. The rescue made sure to get her up-to-date on all vaccines and deworming treatments, too! Since being spayed and microchipped, she’s officially ready to search for her perfect home!
Finding Kiah’s Forever
Kiah’s ideal match will be someone who is active, available, and patient with her while she adjusts to a new environment. Her new owner will need to be prepared to play many rounds of fetch and to keep this smart, working-breed dog occupied. As her rescuers shared in a Facebook post, Kiah adores being petted, so they’ll also need to be ready for lots of snuggle time after she’s tuckered out.
This smart dog is crate-trained, potty-trained and leash-trained! She has not been around cats or small children, though she does well around other confident and playful dogs. In fact, she may benefit from having a fur sibling in her forever home! Her tripod status doesn’t slow her down one bit, but it sure does make her unique!
