Jade, a delightful 35-pound Australian Shepherd and Shiba Inu mix, is only a year and a half old yet has already proven to be an exceptional service dog. Her devoted owner, Heath, is engaged to a woman who manages a home health care facility, where Jade first met Mrs. Riddle. Mrs. Riddle was undergoing treatment for mental health issues and had recently lost her loyal canine companion when her husband passed away. Despite expecting nothing in return, sweet Jade filled the void in Mrs. Riddle’s life, showing her the boundless love that only a dog can provide.
Accompanied by Heath’s girlfriend, Jade paid a visit to Mrs. Riddle’s residence where they hit it off instantly. Mrs. Riddle was so fond of Jade that she showered her with an abundance of toys and always offered her delicious treats to munch on. Consequently, whenever Jade is invited to visit Mrs. Riddle again, she becomes thrilled with anticipation.
It’s amazing to witness Jade’s transformation into a therapy dog for an individual who has experienced a great deal of loss. On her first birthday, she was gifted around 60 racquetball balls, which she absolutely loves and goes crazy for whenever they bounce around!
According to Heath, he often puts a leash on her and allows her to pull him on his skateboard along Anchorage’s Coastal Trail. She’s quite a lively individual, influenced in part by her Eskimo heritage, but also very understanding when it comes to spending time with Mrs. Riddle, who holds a significant place in her heart.

Petunia, a dog who was rescued, originally intended to care for her own litter of puppies. However, when six puppies were left without a mom, Petunia stepped up to the challenge and became their foster mom.
Despite already having 11 puppies of her own, a 4-year-old St. Bernard-mix opened her heart and home to six orphaned puppies who were found in an abandoned house. Dedicated volunteers searched for the mother of the pups, but since she didn’t return, the organization No Dog Left Behind intervened. Petunia, the St. Bernard-mix, was introduced to the abandoned puppies, and to the delight of everyone, she welcomed them with open paws. Stephanie Easley, Petunia’s foster mom, shared that as soon as the puppies arrived, Petunia immediately started nurturing them as if they were her own and accepted them as part of her family without any hesitation.
Petunia, a pregnant stray in rural Minnesota, was fortunate enough to receive help from strangers before eventually finding her way to Easley’s home. The initial worry that Petunia would not be a good mother disappeared as she settled into her temporary “suite” and began fulfilling her maternal duties with ease. Easley was pleasantly surprised at how well Petunia took care of her six new orphaned kittens, despite the initial concern that she may need extra help. It’s heartwarming to see how well Petunia has adapted to her new role as a mother.
Large dog litters usually consist of around one to twelve puppies, with an average of five or six. However, the latest litter born to Petunia has surpassed all expectations, and the new mother and her babies seem to be doing well. According to Easley, Petunia is a lovable and affectionate dog who has stolen her heart. Easley considers herself blessed to have had so many amazing foster dogs, but Petunia is already proving to be one of the most special ones. Proud of her brood, Petunia enjoys showing off her little ones, and Easley is amazed at how well she’s coping with her newfound duties. Easley believes that humans could learn a lot from Petunia’s loving and accepting nature, and she hopes that someday people will be as selfless and giving as this incredible dog mom.
As soon as Petunia’s maternal responsibilities decrease, she and her babies will be up for adoption. However, Easley is already feeling the effects of having Petunia in her life.
According to Easley, fostering Petunia has been a transformative experience. She takes pride in being able to contribute to rescuing 18 innocent lives at once. The impact that incredible dogs like Petunia have on our lives is unforgettable and will shape her children into compassionate human beings who will carry on her legacy.
