Allison Smith, also referred to as Ally, had been horseback riding since her early years. The animal enthusiast resided in Charlottesville, Virginia, and had established a horse rescue farm called “Colby’s crew rescue.”
Among the equines residing at the sanctuary, Big John led a truly splendid life. The horse enjoyed a life of luxury. The veterinarian had requested that Ally serve him beer for breakfast and dinner. He possessed his own personal massage device and had friends who relished his company.
Cotton, a tiny donkey, always stayed by his side. Observing them together was genuinely amusing as they were complete opposites. Ally speculated that Big John might appreciate the companionship of a female horse.
They attempted to introduce several horses, but the older horse proved to be very selective. Therefore, when Stardust arrived at their farm, they knew she would likely become a permanent member of their sanctuary.
Ally brought Stardust down to Big John’s pasture, and that’s when his interest piqued. The horse caregiver was perplexed by Big John’s reaction since he typically didn’t engage with other horses to such an extent.
Ally allowed the two horses to settle in for a few days to observe if they could develop a friendship. Soon enough, the two horses became inseparable. They would often be found in the field, with Big John resting his head on Stardust’s back. However, they still retained their unique qualities. For instance, Big John enjoyed his beer while Stardust simply turned up her nose at it.
Together, they formed an endearing elderly duo that deeply cared for one another. Ally was thrilled that they could provide a sanctuary for these splendid horses to spend the rest of their days.
