The urban pigeons often seen in the square are just a small part of the countless other graceful and beautiful pigeons. In fact, the pigeon family (scientific name: Columbae) has up to 300 species. In Vietnam, pigeons are also called by other names such as quan cuu, roo ghi… Pigeons are one of the most common birds in the world, appearing from the Sahara desert to Antarctica.
A 2017 study confirmed that pigeons have developed brains and understand concepts of space and time similar to humans. In addition, most pigeons are capable of returning to their nests after flying up to 2,100 km.
