A rare and extraordinary sight of two large snakes – one consuming the other, was discovered at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Singapore.

On the evening of June 22, 2021, nature photographer, Jimmy Wong, who happened to be around the area, managed to capture the breathtaking sight of a king cobra gobbling up its prey, a reticulated python.

After initially hearing about the sighting of a king cobra, Wong spotted the snake and followed it to its main hiding spot in the nature reserve.

That’s where he stumbled across a lifeless python on the ground.

According to photographers at the scene, the reticulated python was “left there to die” after an earlier battle with the king cobra. Despite the python being naturally bigger in size, the venomous king cobra took the ‘throne’ and had returned to retrieve its prey.

Known to be the longest snake in the world, the reticulated python can grow up to 10 meters long, greatly surpassing the 5.4-meter-long king cobra.

The king cobra devoured the python whole, starting from its head.

King cobras are categorized as ‘vulnerable’ by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The fact that this king cobra managed to survive was incredible since non-venomous constrictors, such as its meal, kill their prey by suffocating it to death.

If you ever encounter any snakes in your lifetime, it is advisable to remain calm and avoid any provocation. In fact, snakes are actually shy creatures who do not attack unless threatened.
