Incredible Rescue: More than 70 Dogs Delivered from Abuse and Ignorance in Mississippi

In the heart of Newton, Mississippi, a tale of cruelty and neglect unfolds as Animal Rescue Corps, in collaboration with dedicated volunteers, undertakes a life-saving mission named Operation Skin and Bones.

Over the past two days, more than 70 dogs and puppies, victims of appalling mistreatment, have been rescued from two properties where they endured unimaginable suffering.

These innocent animals were subjected to a harrowing existence, devoid of water, food, and medical care, exposed to the relentless cruelty of extreme heat. Many were found chained, their bodies revealing severe dental damage as a result of desperate attempts to break free from their heavy chains.

Tragically, the rescue site tells a somber story, with at least 15 sets of intact remains discovered on the property. Some dogs met their untimely demise in small cages, their last breaths locked away in confinement, while others lay scattered across the grounds. Preliminary estimates suggest that the actual number of deceased dogs may be higher, hinting at the scale of this heart-wrenching tragedy.

The surviving dogs, now in the care of Animal Rescue Corps, bear the physical and emotional scars of their ordeal. Infested with parasites, emaciated, dehydrated, and plagued by untreated illnesses and injuries, these resilient beings are on the long road to recovery.

Operation Skin and Bones not only aims to rescue these innocent lives but also seeks justice for the perpetrators of this heinous act. The previous owners of Second Paw Dog Rescue now face felony animal neglect charges, a testament to the commitment to holding those responsible accountable for their actions.

To amplify the impact of the rescue efforts, Cathy Bissell and BISSELL Pet Foundation have stepped in as compassionate partners.

Offering a generous challenge match of $20,000, they extend an invitation to all who wish to contribute. Every donation made during this challenge match will be doubled, allowing the funds to stretch further in aiding the recovery and rehabilitation of these deserving animals.

In the face of such cruelty, Operation Skin and Bones stands as a beacon of hope. It is a testament to the collective compassion of individuals, organizations, and communities that refuse to turn a blind eye to the suffering of innocent animals.

As the rescued dogs embark on their journey to healing and new beginnings, the resounding message is clear — together, we can make a difference and give these animals the love and care they rightfully deserve.
