The term ‘big cat’ has just received an extreme makeover thanks to the appearance of this enormous feline. Everyone knows Apollo, a cross between a lion and a tiger who has just earned the title of ‘the world’s largest cat’.
This gentle giant is a liger, a hybrid combination of a male lion and a tigress. Apollo recently gained notoriety after taking a stroll alongside Mike Holston and wildlife conservationist Kody Antle in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The footage was uploaded to YouTube and immediately went viral.

“This big guy’s name is Apollo and he’s the biggest cat on the planet. Now the question is, what would this thing eat? “I think he would eat everything in sight, anything in sight,” Mike said. I think a pack of this stuff would take down a herd of elephants for a snack. “He is such a majestic beast that he can reach 40 miles per hour in a couple of steps,” added the former soccer star.
Mike also added that the liger’s teeth are the size of his middle finger, his tongue is the size of his forearm, and his lung is probably as big as his torso. As for his neck, that’s also too big for any of the men to wrap their arms around, Scoop Whoop reports. Ligers could reach up to 12 feet and weigh up to 795 pounds, twice as much as a lion or tiger. People compare Apollo to the prehistoric saber-toothed tiger, which went extinct 42,000 years ago.
