The video captured the scene of a giant spider swallowing a bird. Scientists believe that this tarantula spider is related to the Chilean red spider.
Таrаntula is a large spider with a hairy body. According to taxonomy, the tarantula spider belongs to the Theraphoside family, which includes 800 species that live on all continents, except the Arctic.
The habitat of the tarantula is usually in the humid forests of South America. This spider weighs up to 120 grams, the legs are 30 centimeters long. Other species of tarantula are much smaller, weighing no more than 10 grams.
The hunting technique of the tarantula spider is very simple. They often hide in burrows and attack lightning fast when sensing prey. Their favorite foods are grasshoppers, crickets, scarab beetles, butterflies and other smaller spiders. Sometimes they even catch small birds, mice, snakes, frogs.
Like other spiders, the tarantula does not eat by chewing, but injects its prey with a digestive fluid, then slowly enjoys the prey that has turned into liquid water because it is “processed”.
Experts from the Leibniz Institute for Ecology and Evolution in Germany added: ‘Tarantula spiders do not usually eat birds, but sometimes there are exceptions.
