In a heartwarming story of resilience, Fahsai, a three-month-old baby elephant whose name means “clear sky” in Thai, is on the path to healing in Thailand after a traumatic experience.
This young elephant endured severe injuries, including multiple gunshot wounds and entanglement in a hunter’s trap.
Fahsai’s plight was discovered in eastern Thailand last Sunday. Concerned locals found her right foot trapped in a cruel snare, and her shoulder was riddled with gunshot wounds. The quick and compassionate actions of rescuers initiated her journey toward recovery.
Veterinarian Padet Siridumrong described the dramatic rescue, stating, “We managed to extract a sizable fragment of a bullet, followed by two smaller pieces.” This essential initial medical treatment is just the beginning of Fahsai’s healing process.
Fahsai requires daily care for her injuries until she is strong enough to undergo more extensive surgery to remove the remaining bullet fragments from her fragile body.
Fahsai will be cared for and fed during her recovery by surrogate mother elephants at the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden in Chonburi province.
This temporary solution is crucial for the young survivor until a permanent foster mother elephant is found to provide the essential nurturing Fahsai desperately needs.
This touching story showcases Fahsai’s unyielding determination. Her strong will to survive has inspired a collaborative effort to heal her wounds and ensure a future filled with nurturing care from a foster mother amidst the lush landscapes of Thailand.
