The image of giants has appeared quite a lot in the legends and myths of many different cultures. Most of them are just fictional details, the imagination of the ancients. However, in America, that is not necessarily true…
Paiute is a Native American tribe that lives in North America. Like all other peoples, they also have their own traditional culture with myths and legends. Through many generations, they have passed down the feat of their ancestors, associated with the image of the red-haired giant Si-Te-Cah.
According to legend, the Si-Te-Cah were a tribe that lived among the Paiute people in North America. Although they were few in number, they were all giants, tall and with distinctive red hair.
A special feature of this tribe is that they are extremely bloodthirsty. They often attack surrounding tribes, especially the Paiute people, to eat their flesh. When hungry, the Si-Te-Cah people even eat their own people alive. In the legends of the Aztecs and Maya, these civilizations also encountered the aforementioned carnivorous giants.

The Paiutes called the red-haired giants Si-Te-Cah (which means “the bulrush eaters” in their native language). They called them that because in conflicts between the two tribes, the Si-Te-Cahs often used bulrush stalks to make boats and rafts to move or escape.
On the other hand, these giants regularly abduct women who cut down rushes in the Humboldt Lake area.
Many documents have recorded that there was a deep hatred between the Si-Te-Cah and the Paiute. Sarah Winnemucca Hopkins – daughter of the Paiute chief once said: ” I have a red dress and I never wear it. We call it a mourning dress, because red reminds people of savage giants”.

There were frequent wars between the two tribes. And to resist the attacks, murders, and harassment of the red-haired giants, the Paiutes gathered forces and forced Si-Te-Cah to retreat to a cave.
There, the red-haired giants, despite losing, were stubborn and refused to surrender. As a result, the Paiutes were angry and burned down the cave, killing all the giants. An earthquake then wiped out all traces of the Si-Te-Cah tribe.
…to scientific truth
The above story is not a fabrication. After many years of research, archaeologists have found evidence of the existence of the legendary giant race.

The cave mentioned in the Paiute accounts is probably Lovelock Cave (or Horseshoe Cave) in Nevada, USA. The cave is 12m deep and 18m wide and has been exploited by miners since 1911.
However, they accidentally damaged many artifacts of giants. It was not until 1912 that archaeologists were able to get involved. Experts found about 10,000 artifacts such as duck traps made from wicker, sandals, baskets… they were about 2,000 years old.

In the memoir of James.H. Hart – one of the first two miners to enter Lovelock cave, he recorded that he discovered a skeleton with red hair, 2-3m tall.
In addition, many scientists have discovered ancient slippers of gigantic size, up to 38cm long. Surely, no normal person can fit into that size of slippers. Currently, this slippers and some other artifacts have been on display at the Museum of Social History in Reno Nevada since 1952.

In the 1970s, many giant human bones were also found around the Amazon region. This was another eloquent evidence that the presence of the Si-Te-Cah giants was real.
The remains demonstrate the enormous size of the giant Si-Te-Cah.
However, what we know about them is still too little, sketchy. Along with the development of science, researchers hope that one day we will solve the mystery of the life of the red-haired giants.
