With a bald head and bright red face, it can make the faint-hearted feel scared when they first meet. This is a short-tailed monkey species in South America, living in the Amazon River basin. 

‘Bald monkey’ is the common name of several nocturnal monkey species in the Capuchin family, the only cynomolgus monkey species abroad. Body length 35-50 cm, tail length 15-20 cm. The face is bare and red, the hair is long and thick. 

There are three types of ‘bald monkey’: one is gray with a pink face, another is red with a bright red face, and the third is light brown with a black face. 

‘Bald monkeys’ live in groups, usually on high tree branches. ‘Bald monkeys’ mainly eat seeds and fruits of plants, and sometimes insects, but do not actively search for food.

They are sociable animals like other monkey groups.

The rare coloration on the monkey’s face is not due to pigment in the body but due to special blood vessels near the skin. The Amazon Indians often hunt bald monkeys . ‘Bald monkeys’ are rare animals with a limited distribution in certain forest areas of the Amazon basin. All three species of bald monkeys are listed as endangered species on the Red List.
