Tragedy struck when Maliwan sustained a severe trunk injury. Her owner turned to the Save the Elephant Foundation for assistance. Thanks to their efforts, Maliwan made a full recovery, regaining complete use of her trunk.
Maliwan found a new home at Elephant Nature Park, where she thrived among new elephant companions. They played in the grasslands, bathed in the river, and enjoyed feasts of fresh fruit.
Though Maliwan still bears the scars of her injury, she relishes her freedom and can eat, drink, and grip objects just like the other elephants.
Nearly eight years later, Marina visited Maliwan at her new home. Overwhelmed with joy, Marina was moved to tears seeing her friend happy and well cared for.
Their story highlights the profound bonds that can develop between humans and animals. May Maliwan continue to enjoy her life with her new friends, and may Marina visit often to share in her happiness.
